Himalaya Film Festival Tokyo 2006
The Himalaya Film Festival Executive Committee will hold the fiim festival in Tokyo 2006 .
The Himalaya Film Festival is the only international film festival for documenting the Himalayan region. It officially started in 2003 in Amsterdam by Himalaya Archief Nederland, a Dutch NGO.
The special purpose of the Tokyo festival is to rethink the relationship between people and nature in the Himalayas, by holding various peoject with the co-host of NHK (Japanese public broadcasting).
2006 marks the 50th year anniversary of the first successful climbing of Mt. Manasulu by a Japanese expedition. In 1956, the expedition reached Mt. Manasulu (8,163 m) of the Himalayas, which it was the world's first successful scaling of the mountain. The expedition was a great achievement internationally and boosted the post war morale of the Japanese people.
2006 is also the 50th year anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.
We firmly believe that the Himalaya Film Festival Tokyo 2006 project will foster understanding of the Himalayan region and people' relationship withh the earth, making 2006 a first Himalaya year in Japan.
Please help us make this project a success.
